Meanwhile, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Lecturer Slamet Raharjo said the sacrificial cow did not cry when it was about to be slaughtered on Eid al-Adha.

“Not crying,” he said. “Tears are produced normally every day, so we often see traces of tears on the edges of the eyes,” he added.

When going to be slaughtered, the sacrificial cow is positioned to lie down or lie on its side.

“This position makes the tear glands spontaneously release tears and drip or melt out of the eyes so that it looks like crying,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, crying in animals describes the expression of their psychological condition which can only be found in primates, such as apes, monkeys or orangutans.
