Legislators Remind Citizens to Be Careful with Meat Consumption to Prevent Anthrax

BONSERNEWS.com – The Gunungkidul District Health Office (Dinkes) said that one Semanu resident had died of anthrax. The Health Office has taken 125 samples from exposed areas and the results were 85 people positive for anthrax.
Responding to this, Member of Commission IX DPR RI, Nurhadi, urged that treatment and administration of antibiotics be carried out immediately to those affected by anthrax so that the infected area does not spread, expand and become acute.
“We are worried that if it is not treated immediately it could cause serious complications which have implications for death,” Nurhadi told reporters, Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

“Second, prevent the potential spread of anthrax disease, both to humans and livestock around the incident site,” continued the NasDem politician.
For humans, according to Nurhadi, if they want to consume meat, they must ensure that it is clean and has been cooked thoroughly. Then as much as possible avoid direct contact with livestock infected with anthrax.

As for animals, the government must immediately administer an anthrax vaccine, especially in areas that are already infected.
“The government can trace the initial detection of anthrax in livestock, it could be because the livestock consumed food and water contaminated with spores,” said the legislator for the VII regional election of East Java.
Previously, the Head of the Gunungkidul Health Office, Dewi Irawaty, revealed that she initially received a report from Dr. Sardjito General Hospital regarding a 73-year-old male patient who was exposed to anthrax on June 2. The patient, a resident of the Jati Village Village, Candirejo Village, Kapanewon Semanu, Gunungkidul Regency, died on June 4.
“So, when there was a report from Sardjito regarding people dying from anthrax, we immediately traced it. The person concerned was a 73-year-old man. So he participated in slaughtering and consuming the livestock meat,” he said ()
