Meanwhile Polda Metro Jaya ensured that the ASEAN LGBT meeting or the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community would not be held in Jakarta.

“There are no (LGBT gathering events), it’s even been claimed that it won’t take place in Jakarta,” said Dirintelkam Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Hirbak Wahyu Setiawan.

Hirbak said that from the start, the police had been trying to find out the truth about the meeting.

To note, the event was relocated after receiving threats from various parties.

“The organization of the ASEAN Queer Advocacy Week has decided to relocate the venue outside Indonesia,” the organizers wrote in a statement.

“That (the decision to relocate the event outside Indonesia), after receiving a series of security threats from various parties,” he continued.

According to the organizers, the relocation of the event was decided to ensure the safety and security of the participants and the committee.
