After India, the number of cases is estimated at 969,000 annually.
“In Indonesia it is estimated that every year there are 969,000 of our people who are affected by tuberculosis and until before Covid, 545,000 could be identified at most. So the remaining 400,000 were not detected, even though this is an infectious disease, it can spread everywhere,” said Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
“Now with the aggressiveness of the government program, it has increased, those found or detected have increased to 720,000. We hope that by 2024 90% of the estimate of 969,000 can be found or detected,” he added.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo gave directions so that the Ministry of Health could work together with the Minister of Home Affairs and the Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration.
“So for two months he didn’t infect his family, he was put in a special quarantine. I was told to work with the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing under the coordination of the Coordinating Minister for PMK, so that he would not be infected, and he was given medicine, it was ensured that he would continue taking medicine for two months,” he explained.
Then, for vaccination, the government is conducting studies to bring in a new TB vaccine.
This is because the effectiveness of the BCG vaccine is considered low.
“The closest is the vaccine found by Glaxosmithkline (GSK), then taken over by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, now in the process of carrying out a clinical trail in Indonesia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health with UI and Padjadjaran University, with BPOM,” he said.
Budi Gunadi Sadikin also said, there are two more mRNA vaccine candidates that are collaborating with foreign parties.
