DPR: Indonesian Citizens Can Go to Papua New Guinea Visa Free

BONSERNEWS.com – The DPR RI Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) said that the Papua New Guinea Parliament had ratified the Bill on Free Visas for Indonesia.

Deputy Chairperson (BKSAP) Putu Supadma Rudana said this allowed Indonesian citizens to visit Papua New Guinea visa-free.

“The visa-free ratification for Indonesian citizens to PNG has been drawn up, ratified and signed,” said Putu, Wednesday 5 July 2023.

Putu said the Visa Free Law for Indonesia was a form of cooperation between the two countries that had been sought for a long time. Putu himself went back and forth to Papua New Guinea repeatedly from May to last June.

He said the flight route from Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali to Jacksons Port Moresby International Airport, Papua New Guinea had also been inaugurated.

“PNG opened itself by realizing visa-free flights and direct flights from Bali – Papua New Guinea. This is history for both countries,” he said.

Putu said this could improve bilateral relations between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Both in terms of connectivity, economy, investment, tourism, socio-culture and defense and security.

“We will encourage connectivity to improve in all fields. We have indeed been absent for quite a long time in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific countries. The time is now, I am proud that KADIN friends are already active, and of course we hope that SOEs will be there to participate in building investments and building various things,” said Putu.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Papua New Guinea Parliament, Kala Aufa Clerk of the PNG Parliament, confirmed that the bill on visa-free Indonesia had been ratified.

“The bill on visa-free Indonesia has been ratified, it only remains to be announced by the Government of PNG so that visa-free implementation is implemented immediately,” he said.

It is known, President Jokowi will also make a visit to Papua New Guinea on July 5. He is scheduled to hold a meeting with the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, James Marape, and the Governor General of Papua New Guinea. ()
