BONSERNEWS.com – There is a video circulating of two fishing boats being burned in the waters of Datu Island, Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan Province. The two ships are known to belong to residents of Pati and Rembang, Central Java.
Member of Commission IV DPR RI, Firman Soebagyo, hearing this, regretted the burning of the ship. According to him, both the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KemenKKP) and the National Police cannot let this drag on and asked law enforcers to give strict sanctions.
“I request that the ranks of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries must immediately respond and take firm legal action against the people who did this and caused no small loss,” Firman told reporters, Friday 30 June 2023.

We hope that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries will immediately coordinate with the police to take decisive action and carry out the legal process in accordance with what is applicable in this rule-of-law country, so the law must be enforced as fairly as possible.
The legislators for the Central Java III electoral district, which include Pati, Gerobogan and Rembang, are of the view that if there are indeed fishermen who make mistakes, they should go through the legal and judicial processes that apply and not take the law into their own hands like thugs. Moreover, continued Firman, the law has already processed it, but there are still people joining in the burning.

“This country is not a country filled with thugs and vigilantes, and if it’s like this, where is the role of our government and law enforcement officers?” asked Firman, surprised.
Firman further assessed that in the midst of a difficult economic situation like this, the Government should remain vigilant and responsive to things that happen in society. Moreover, they work as fishermen because it is indeed not easy to be full of high speculation with a lot of costs and a big risk.
Therefore, if the burning incident is allowed to continue, it is possible that it will become a cause of horizontal conflict between members of the community.
Therefore, Firman urged the Regional Government, Polda and PSDKP of West Kalimantan to seriously enforce the rule of law for anyone who violates it, including taking the law into their own hands when burning fishing boats.
“As a representative of the people, I cannot allow anyone, including fishermen from my electoral district, to always be a victim like this and an incident like this is not the first time but it has often happened everywhere. Once again I ask for the firmness of the National Police and KKP as well as the Regional Government to seriously seek joint solutions so that fellow citizens who are looking for food to live can get fair legal protection!
“If this is allowed, it does not rule out the possibility that later people outside Java will seek a life in Java and be evicted by their native people?! If the law enforcement officials do not allow it, social conflict can occur,” said the member of the DPR Baleg.
It is known that the Indonesian Fishermen Association (HNSI) of Pati Regency, Central Java, condemned the burning of a fishing boat from Juwana in the waters of Datu Island, West Kalimantan. They asked law enforcement to take firm action against the perpetrators.
