BONSERNEWS.com – DPR Commission IX member Irma Suryani Chaniago asked the public to be careful about eating meat following the anthrax case that occurred in Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta.
“It is better to eat meat that has been cooked thoroughly. There are those that are consumed undercooked,” said Irma Suryani, Monday 10 July 2023.
He asked all parties to take steps to prevent the spread of the Anthrax Virus, by burying livestock that had died and were not consumed. Meanwhile, animals around anthrax endemic areas that have not been infected must be vaccinated so they are not exposed.

“The Ministry of Health and the Health Service can provide the necessary medicines so that the victims recover. The anthrax virus caused fatalities in Gunungkidul,” he said.
Irma also said that information related to anthrax in Gunungkidul had been followed up by the Ministry of Health, although it could not be categorized as an Extraordinary Event (KLB).

“We have not declared the anthrax case in Gunungkidul as an extraordinary incident. Why not KLB yet? Because it only happened in one area. It hasn’t spread to all of DIY and its surroundings,” he said.
Irma also said that Commission IX of the DPR had asked the Ministry of Health to secure DIY and its surroundings.
“Therefore, it must be checked, so that the virus does not spread and does not take other victims. We urge the Ministry of Health to coordinate with the DIY Health Service to immediately follow up on this incident. The Ministry of Health and related parties need to map again how many animals have been infected with anthrax,” he concluded. ()
